It’s amazing how simple idea can actually becomes the solution of our problem. And it’s even more amazing to see the inventors profit so much just by mass producing simple idea to solve our problem. Portion control plays an important role in our dieting, and many people have problem in applying it. A UK based company decided to monetize on that fact and created simple plate with marked area for different food.

According to a study quoted by BBC, diabetics who used this marked diet plate lost more than 1.75% of their body weight compared to 0.05% (who relied on will power alone).

Sounds like a good product, but there’s one catch. It is expensive. Priced at $30, I think that’s way too expensive for plate.

But you can look it from another point of view too, people have spent A LOT OF money on various dieting products and plans that $30 seems to be insignificant. In fact I like the idea of this marked diet plate better than any drugs or expensive diet food.

Update: Another competitor has sold similar plate for cheaper price here.

Ya may seem a little tad overpriced but hey it's a great tool. And at least it looks pretty, who would want to eat with plastic plate with spidol mark?

Nice post. To be honest portion sizing is one of the most important issue in weight loss. I can't see the plate clearly from here, what's listed in the small scale on each section?

You could buy kids plates which have divided parts. You know, just put the meat on the side part and carbs on the biggest part.

On arrival one of the plates was broken, they promised a new one. That is 3 months and 3 e-mails ago, never received the new one, so be careful out there.
Also wrote an article about it on my blog, was enthusiastic then, not any more.

Sorry to hear that Dr Shock. Must be annoying to order something for over $100 (I assume you didn't buy just one) and found that it was broken.

I know that I am very late in reading this but I still wanted to give me two cents. It's a very good idea to use a small utensil to eat your meal from each time.
Have your soup from an ice cream bowl instead of a regular soup bowl.
Place dinner on a salad plate instead of a dinner plate.
Use a ice cream scoop to serve your mash potatoes and have only one scoop, same thing goes for rice or squash.
You'll be amazed at how fast you'll get used to these portion sizes and will feel very satisfied.
Have a tumbler glass of lemonade to complete dinner or water and lemon juice. Sip the lemonade through a straw slowly savoring the taste until it's finished.
